Character Counts!
What is it?
CHARACTER COUNTS! is the nation's most widely used character development framework, adopted by schools as well as youth, sports and civic organizations. It is based upon shared beliefs and consensus values, the "Six Pillars of Character". These are qualities and traits associated with good character.
What are these six "pillars"?
Together, the first letters of the six pillars create an acronym, TRRFCC! T- is for Trustworthy R - is for Respect R - is for Responsibility F - is for Fairness C - is for Caring C - is for Citizenship. The CHARACTER COUNTS! program is NOT another curriculum to add to the teaching day. Instead it is a means of sharing common beliefs and language between school, community and home. It is delivered all day, every day by everyone our students encounter. The "Pillars" are taught, reinforced and modeled by adults and peers alike. Through this immersion in the program, students will begin to internalize the pillars and act upon them, "even if no one's around!" CHARACTER COUNTS! is a nationwide nonprofit initiative to support nonpartisan, nonsectarian character education.

CHARACTER COUNTS AT ADAMS!
Each morning students give the daily announcement on the intercom system. The announcements have a thought for the day that is centered around Character Counts. Ex: A good citizen respects authority, such as a teachers and parents. They are also reminded to be a terrific (TRRFCC) student.During guidance classes, the guidance counselor has a lesson (activity) first class of each month on the "Pillar of the Month."
Staff is always on the lookout for students showing good character. When they are "caught", they get their name added to our Wall of Fame bulletin board located in the hall and a postcard is sent home to their parents explaining what they were
"caught" doing.
Examples:
Held the door open for UPS lady
Turned in lunch money that a student found.
Greeted new student with a handshake.
Turning in money that was found.
Cleaned up a mess in the boys bathroom.
We have posters displayed around the building, bright colored signs on the fence outside the building and large pillars in the hallway as a reminder of what the pillars are and what they mean.
